Review of Monsoon Wedding (2001) by Tushar S — 10 Oct 2008
I can't believe it took me so long to get round to seeing this..and It's brilliant! Mira Nair does a superb job and provides a captivating insight to how traditional and modern India find a balance with each other.
Though there are five different subplots going on, including child abuse, infidelity and an obviously gay teenager, the film holds together very tightly. Lots of wordless observations and character studies, with not a second wasted.
The acting is also flawless, and it's hard to believe it was made in only 30 days. Layered, subtle, humourous, moving and classy. Oh, that scene with the heart of flowers...!*choke*.
