Review of Monsoon Wedding (2001) by Nik J — 06 Dec 2008
I'd figure I'd rate three Indian movies done in English. So I decided to pick Monsoon Wedding... which I haven't seen in a year or so.
Great great movie. Probably the best of the early wave Indian Indie movies. It captures the strength of Indian family, and some of the darker sides associated with it.
Splendid caste. I ask those not familiar with Indian culture to watch this movie to deepen their understanding. Of course, I caveat it by saying that this is simply one perspective.
The amazing thing about this movie was actually watching the Monsoon Wedding. It was sweet, awkward, ill timed, and beautiful. And it is unexpected. (It's not the "main" wedding.).
The soundtrack is also fantastic. I often play it.
Watch this movie if you can.
