Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Martin R — 07 Feb 2012
Poignant yet charming, an immigrant story with layers of complexity and earnestness. Hard to describe, as the plot doesn't oscillate like we're used to in your more formulaic film efforts, but compelling and a truly human story.
Another French-Canadian movie nominated for Best Foreign Language Oscar and I can understand why, it is exactly the kind of movie the Academy LOVES, but don't let that discourage you it's well worth watching.
