Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Alberto A — 14 Jul 2012
I find the story of the teacher so irrelevant to the film overall. I mean if the story is about the mourning that kids have to face after a tragedy, why do we care if the teacher is a refugee or a permanent resident. I would have done this story so differently. I wouldn't remove the teacher from the picture, but I would put him as a third party, certainly not as the title character.
Personally, I found more interesting the story of Simon, that would have been a powerful story. From my POV, I think the teacher's past is very irrelevant.
