Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Meredith W — 12 Sep 2012
This is simple, subtle and quiet little movie but one which will resonate long after viewing. Despite his rather traditional teaching methods, and the fact that his pupils are traumatised by the death of their teacher, Lazhar succeeds in establishing a rapport with his class. He is unable to accept the decision not to discuss the suicide with his pupils, whatever the cost to himself. However, it is the children, more.
than the lead whose performances stand out, making its exploration of human relationships even more realistic and therefore absorbing.
