Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Janos F — 21 Sep 2012
Beautifully told intertwining stories of emigre substitute teacher and his class of 11-13 year olds dealing with human grief and tragedy. Although character's crises are unrelated in time and space, they find strength to cope with them in each other.
Picture also touches on current apathetic direction of modern pedagogy where any physical contact or talk about human loss with a student is considered Tabu and is given zero tolerance. Picture clearly shows that outcome of this absurd stance is only teacher's and student's punishment with it's hopeless cruelty and soul freezing result.
That said, this picture is in return almost healing experience and I highly recommend this movie to anybody that believes they have a soul...
