Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Günter H — 19 Oct 2012
The main theme of Monsieur Lazhar is arguably the relationship between bureaucracy and the reality it is meant to govern. Even though its depictions of the immigration system and jobsworths in all earnesty are mild, maybe even unrealistically so, it points to the absurdities created by the bulwark between human beings that bureacracy erects, and its consequences for human happiness.
And it does so in a very appealing manner with good performances by both Fellag in the leading role, as well as certain child actors in the film.
