Review of Monsieur Lazhar (2011) by Sumit S — 09 Mar 2013
Crafted with great care & sensitivity, Monsieur Lazhar is a bittersweet tale of love, loss & grief shared between a teacher & his students. Not only is it about teacher-student relationships but also deals with the educational reforms in modern schools, the roles teachers are expected/forced to play, not just by the students but their parents also & the ever-pathetic society we live in.
Boosted by great all-round performances from everyone & deepened by its rich cinematography yet left hollow by its lack of detail which is its only downside, Monsieur Lazhar is a beautiful portrayal of teacher-student bonding that touches on tender issues with great boldness & maturity.
