Review of Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) by Helga M — 21 Jun 2008
Mr. Hulot is no Mr. Bean. He is much nicer and sweeter and more intelligent than Mr. Bean! This is a lovely little movie, just humorous good-natured observations of human nature and foibles in a few weeks at the beach.
My personal favorites are the sashaying old lady and her long-suffering husband Henry - "Look Henry, a seashell! How exciting!" I recommend this movie for all ages and languages. It is in French with subtitles, but don't let that stop you.
The dialogue is hardly needed as the camera catches the details and plot, such as it is, vividly.
