Review of Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) by Nina S — 04 Jul 2012
M. Hulot's Holiday certainly takes its cue from the silent era slapstick comedies. In fact much of the film is without much dialogue at all, as such it has a distinct feel of the silent films. In fact I was pleasantly surprised at the number of laughs I found in this one, particularly as the film progressed.
I've been known to be indifferent to comedies of this era but this is a very likeable film indeed. It's influence seems to be quite far reaching too, to subjects as culturally diverse as Inspector Clouseau to Mr Bean in fact.
