Review of Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) by Corey C — 26 May 2012
The amiably oblivious Mr. Hulot goes to a beach resort town on a weeks long vacation.
The pace of the largely plotless MR. HULOT'S HOLIDAY is leisurely. It's a world where Hulot's battle with a crooked painting is the centerpiece of an entire scene. A suitcase, an uncooperative horse, a record player; all are fodder for the light, largely silent, comic touch of Jacques Tati.
If you're willing to get lost in the flow, and just absorb an environment full of quirky French characters (Caricatures?), HULOT can be highly rewarding. The perfect movie for a lazy, summer Sunday evening.
