Review of Monkey Shines (1988) by Stuart B — 14 Jul 2011
George A. Romero's zombieless Monkey Shines is quite fascinating and tensefying in certain parts of the film. The film does have a controversial ending, but I didn't mind. I began to think about Misery because the situation is almost the same only the stakes are raised when quadriplegic Allan (Jason Beghe) has to live with a helper monkey that acts on his own impulses.
He is unable to prove anything and starts to have visions that he's inside the monkey. It sounds preposturous, but it's effective especially since that monkey will start to rebel at one point.
