Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Seth D — 11 Jan 2009
I have to admit this is not the movie I thought it was going to be. Very pleasant surprise to find not an action adventure movie but a slow unfolding of a man's rise from orphaned child to the beginning of his reign. My understanding is that this is to be just the first in a trilogy. I hope that's true and I hope the same creative team that made Mongol makes the following two films.
The production on this film is amazing. Gorgeously shot (I saw the Blu-ray version), subtle CGI, remarkable costumes and settings. For two hours I was in 13th century northern Asia.
