Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Scott P — 17 Jul 2009
"Mongol" is worth a look. The cinematography is top notch while I found the story lacking in places and overall never seems to flow like it should, I'm still recommending it. "Mongol" is the first in a three part film series on the life of Genghis Khan. I'm sure the others will have a richer story and hopefully not try too hard to imitate Hollywood large scale production.
This isn't historically accurate and from my research it seems much is left unknown about his early life. This film takes some artistic risks which a piece of fiction should. The performances are great. The characters were identifiable. I wished Sergei Bodrov wouldn't fade to black as often.
It's a good rental at least. I enjoyed myself. The sweeping fight sequences are very well done.
