Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Jerry X — 29 Jul 2009
Just like a lovely dish, this movie gave you a little taste of everything so you didn't over indulge, but it's not a dish that you would eat and eat regardless of the ensuing consequences. This film focused on Genghis Khan as a young man.
It told the tale of his formidable childhood, his love for a girl, and his innate instinct for survival that accompanied him on the path to becoming a brutal ruler who conquered half the world. The terrific cinematography complimented by the simple yet majestic landscape keeps you immersed; while the solid acting by a diverse cast (and crew) keeps you engaged.
As if a homage to the glorious empire that once ruled, countries surrounding Mongolia all pitched in to make this production a reality. It was dramatic, beautiful, and entertaining, but then again, I've always been a sucker for epic films.
