Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Jaymz G — 08 Aug 2009
This movie is just another reiteration of how foreign films can trump Hollywood at times. The production quality of this film is very good, and that's what makes it shine. The actors do an excellent job, and the cinematography is excellent.
The plot is a tricky issue though. On the one hand, it's an excellent mythical portrayal of Genghis Khan's early life and interestingly humanizes this great conqueror. The plot is driven by the love story between him and his wife, which likely could be aggrandized to the point of fiction.
Nonetheless, it succeeds in showing Temujin as a person rather than a god. The only failure this movie has is its seemingly slow progression. Sometimes it can feel like it's dragging, while some of the action sequences feel like they are cut short.
In the end, this movie is worth watching though.
