Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Matt C — 17 Jan 2010
There's no denying this is a beautifully shot film, the cinematography is outstanding. However you come away with a strange empty feeling from the film as a whole. It's stuck as to what it wants to be, is it a character piece really looking at the story of Ghenghis Khan or is it just a swords and sandals battle epic? Well really it's neither, some of the characters are really interesting but it still fails to move you and the battle scenes are nothing we haven't seen before.
It's spectacular, but it's still a failure unfortunately.
