Review of Mongol: The Rise of Genghis Khan (2007) by Nicolas M — 13 Oct 2010

As part of a planned trilogy, it's easy to see how this film holds back in a sense.

It's really an origin story for Genghis Khan, rather than a full blown epic. But that's not to say the film doesn't deliver, it does.

The cinematography is wonderful, the attention to detail is sharp, and the actors pull off their roles quite well.

The ending is also superbly handled as it sums up why we had to watch Genghis trudge through hard time after hard time for most of the movie and that is something to admire.

It's well worth a rental and even a buy, just understand...this is only the beginning...
