Review of Moneyball (2011) by Trace D — 08 Oct 2012
A hilarious and intelligent script by Aaron Sorkin based on a best selling true story brought to life with terrific performances from Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Chris Pratt. What's not to like? The film does a stellar job of avoiding sports movie cliches and creates an atmosphere more like "The Social Network" than like "The Natural" creating a multitiered look at a man, Billy Beane, who has a damaged perspective of his own self worth and dreams of changing baseball in a way he never could as a player.
The film lags towards the end, some of the side characters seem underdeveloped and the feel can be at times a bit over sentimental (I'm looking at you father/daughter relationship) but otherwise it's a solid film that will be one to watch for come oscar season.
