Review of Moneyball (2011) by Matthew L — 08 Jun 2018
If you love baseball, you will love this movie. If you don't love baseball, you will still love this movie. Although some may think this movie is just about baseball statistics, it is not. This movie is about Billy Bean's quest at redemption.
After his disastrous professional player career, Billy Bean chooses to become a General Manager and try to put together a team for the Oakland Athletics. Brad Pitt turns in a fantastic performance that translate Billy's love of the game and his daughter perfectly to make for a protagonist that is both relatable and easy to root for.
Jonah Hill also turns in a surprisingly sentimental performance as the shy, nerdy Peter Brand. Our connection with Billy and his sidekick are what makes this movie special. One can feel their love for the game in this film and desire to change baseball for the better.
Even after losing in the postseason, one still sees success that Billy has accomplished in bringing a change to the game and a bright future for his daughter.
