Review of Money Monster (2016) by James M — 01 Jul 2016
A solid "okay". Doesn't function perfectly as a hostage film and doesn't make 100% sense 100% of the time. Jodie Foster (director) borrows somewhat from her time in Inside Man for the visuals.
Nice to see Gus from Breaking Bad (albeit playing discount Denzel Washington) and refreshing to have a relative nobody (discount Jeremy Renner) as the "man-on-the-street" hostage taker. Feels like a longer, better script has been shortened but , while dumbed down in places, is whip-smart in others and has genuine, everyone-in-the-audience-laughed gags.
Clooney as comfortable as ever and Roberts trading on emotive skill rather than elegance. Enough little twists along the way so, if it's on Sky or Amazon, watch :).
