Review of Money Monster (2016) by Tyler S — 23 Jan 2017
Average movie starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts about a gunman who takes a TV show hostage. I thought initially the premise was very interesting until the motives of the Gunnar were made clear.
It was extremely predictable and executed pretty sloppily in my opinion. I thought that behind the scenes things going on outside of the studio did not add up which made the plot very muddled. Clooney was really good as the energetic host of "Money Monster," a stock tip show with a sort of hip hop edge.
Roberts was the shining star for me as the no nonsense producer who tries to hold everything together when the gunman takes control of the set. Again good idea, just bad execution in my opinion. It went a direction that almost made me facepalm with the level of predictability on display.
When you think of a gunman holding a TV set hostage, you would hope the intensity level would be at a 10. Unfortunately it was about a 5 which in turn made the movie unconvincing to me.
