Review of Mona Lisa (1973) by Owen J — 31 Oct 2008
Been looking forward to seeing this for years and it didn't dissapoint. Hoskins in yet another brilliant performance the guy is such a good actor I wouldn'y go as far as to call him underrated because he does get props but still the guy should be mentioned with the greats.
Loved the story quite heartbreaking really. I didn't really understand the literary aspirations of the film what were the rabbits, horses, dwarves etc all about? The film looked superb very noir like.
Any fans of The Wire notice Clarke Peters aka 'Cool' Lester 'Smooth' Freeman playing Anderson (that lift scene was scary as fuck) The cast were brilliant all round Tyson was sublime and I wish Caine had some more scenes.
Highly recommended.
