Review of Mon Oncle (1958) by Peter W — 19 Feb 2008
This almost silent almost surrealist film is a must see for anyone who likes the tone and patience of director's like Dreyer, Tarkovsky, and Bresson. A colorful film filled with sight gags including the funniest surveillance gag on film to date.
Man is controlled by his surroundings and it takes an idiot savant like Hulot to act as a cog in the industrial wheel to remind human nature of the insanity and prison like nature of their bodies behavior in the modern world.
A cousin of Chaplin's Modern Times for sure.
