Review of Mon Oncle (1958) by Yertle T — 27 May 2009
This is my second time watching Jacques Tati's movie (the first one is the classic "Play Time"), and I think this early Tati's movie is even better. With good camera work, beautiful set with great sense of both humor and human touch featured in the movie, it allows you to be deeply involved in a lovely & ironic comparison among the hypocritical & pretentious side of new middle class and the innocent & passionate side of normal people inside a small French town.
What's so astonishing is that over 70% of the movie relies on music & sound effects to set up the whole mood n tone of the whole movie, without using any significant dialogs... OMG, this was a movie made in 50s, and it's still a movie so modern and classic that you couldn't resist admiring with.
