Review of Mon Oncle (1958) by Paul J — 21 Jul 2009
Humor based on choreography, photography, and set design, decidedly meant for cinema, solely. At a time when the luxuries of the modern world had most everyone else swept away, Tati & Company kept the technology at arm's length and in the process, made a hilarious and thoughtful commentary on society, fit for a (good) Terry Gilliam movie.
Who today will carry the torch and make films about a bureaucratic Byzantine, or is that cinematic outlook lost forever?
