Review of Molly's Game (2017) by Elliot B — 05 Jan 2018
Though somewhat overwritten at times and occasionally episodic in its storytelling, "Molly' s Game" nevertheless spins an intriguing yarn about a colorful and unique character. This fact-based offering from writer-director Aaron Sorkin successfully maintains a brisk pace for its 2:20 runtime while serving up yet another sparkling performance by Jessica Chastain, ably backed by Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera and Bill Camp.
Had the dialogue been a little more natural and a little less "written," this could have easily been one of the year's best. Don't get me wrong -- it's still good; it just that, with a little script tweaking, it could have been an absolute knock-out.
