Review of Modern Times (1936) by Michael C — 03 Mar 2009
A well-regarded Chaplin classic with some truly inspired comedic moments, but for the life of me The Gold Rush and City Lights are still above it in my eyes. It was cool how this film (which came out in the wake of sound film) started to integrate the new technology slowly into silent works; one of the reasons I think Chaplin had a more successful career over his other silent contemporaries is because he took a gradual transition into sound films (with Limelight and The Great Dictator being full sound flicks) rather than jump right in.
