Review of Modern Times (1936) by Chiang L — 28 Nov 2011
Fantastic!
This movie is flawless. I've never seen a silent movie before this, and although this one has a couple of lines of dialogue and a song, the 2 main characters don't speak. It is an excellent social commentary and the working class and the Great Depression. Full of laughs and every turn, and it's surprisingly fast-paced. Chaplin practically invented slapstick humor, and it is evident that hundreds of comedians and movies over the years have been influenced by him. Also, saw this on Criterion Collection blu-ray, and it was extremely crisp with both picture and sound. Can't wait to see more from this guy.
