Review of Modern Times (1936) by Bradley W — 10 Jul 2012
Modern Times is one of Charlie Chaplin's greatest masterpieces, and one of the finest examples of great comedy films. Comedy films nowadays are filled with fart jokes, sex, and stupidity but watching classics like this and City Lights show me that there will always be the masterpieces of the silent era to make me laugh.
I enjoy silent films, I mean of course its hard for some people of the modern age to sit through them, but the simplicity in their stories os fun and Chaplin uses it to his advantage. By this time many people hadgave up on silent films, but Chaplin gives one final blow showing that silent films are still the golden age of Hollywood.
Chaplin's performance as The Tramp is still one of the most memorable characters ever and his goofy shennanigans at the start of the film and the machine that feeds him always makes me laugh. Modern Times is a stunning film that has a great message that can be used even today, because many people are still out of work nowadays and a film like this can help a guy get up off his feet.
Chaplin sends the world a great message and does it with a lot of comic relief and a lot of fun, and its safe to say Modern Times is one of the greatest films ever made.
