Review of Modern Times (1936) by Petros T — 22 Jan 2011
Another ageless Chaplin film, "Modern Times" will have you laughing your head off but will also make you wonder. An ingenious allegory, it depicts a society/ machine that eats everything that resists, a world/ voracious monster that extracts the mind and soul of its servants and replaces it with stupor and typical, industrial, mass-produced thoughts.
A cry of agony but also an optimistic and welcome beckoning to the future, "Modern Times" is one of the most profound stories in the history of celluloid.
