Review of Moana (2016) by Kalasyn — 06 Mar 2017
The music is a standout (with the possible exception of the dud "Shiny"), and Moana's world shines with authenticity and care. The people, ships, animals, costumes all give a taste of Islander life, and I wish that potential felt more realized throughout the film.
Several of the recurring gags (tattoo man, the chicken) fell flat for me and weren't handled with typical Disney deftness. A movie I would happy to watch again, though nowhere near the quality of monster-hit Frozen.
