The plot is what kept me from loving this film like other critics have. I thought all the "M" names were confusing, and the explanation of why Maui stole the rock but then didn't want it, but also didn't want to give it back, was very confusing.
They also didn't explain a whole lot of why the rock caused issues with the ocean. It just felt very unnecessarily complex and not well explained. The only part I got was Moana helping another character find herself, and in doing so, Moana finds her true purpose as well.
Perhaps give different characters non-similar names, and make the plot a little more straight forward, and this film could be a Disney Classic.
