Review of Moana (2016) by Ryan H — 16 Jan 2017
Moana was one of those movies that were so hyped immediately as the idea was born, which in tune with the history of other Disney franchises and movies of 2016 in general was meant to crumble in failure. However the movie's tremendous success and the unexpected critical reception has, overwhelmed us all. Good job Disney. Moana fell into the loop of the Disney movies of the 1990s that had us swept off our feet.
Moana in my opinion was an excellent execution of a mesmerizing tale of the self-search, bravery, determination, love for mother earth and a heart-warming lives of our abiogenists , decorated with the best music a Disney movie have ever had, after 'under the sea' and 'man out of you'. I might have said it before and I am gonna say it again Lin Manneul Miranda is a genius, he can literally just do magic, I mean we've all seen Hamilton at least the bits and pieces of it on YouTube.
Well and of course the rock. Damn he is good. He was funny, emotional, had substance, and well was the coolest demi god you will ever meet. All in this entire movie had solid characterization. Every character, even the minor ones like Moana's mother and father were portrayed in their best and worst times. a well characterized story talks to its audience, we connect with the characters, observe their life decisions critically , feel engulfed in their internal conflicts, all in all make us engaged, well Moana did it.
Plus this movie like a few other Disney phenomena that make us tear up like babies, like mulan, the lion king and Lio and stich spoke to that special place in our hearts. It's funny actually how you wanted to watch a children's movie to escape reality a little and you end contemplating how you should take a chance on yourself, yep deep stuff?
I know this is a one-sided review that sugar coats this movie to its core, but I couldn't get over the fact that this movie was so good, especially as I expected it to be mediocre you know following the footsteps of frozen. Anyway pointing if I had to point out a few flaws, I believe the story of the chosen one called by the universe, full of self-doubt finds her place in the world blah blah, well it's a clichéd story Disney loves to tell although id have to add 'well said Disney', Moana is quality shit.
