Review of Moana (2016) by Laurlily K — 18 Jan 2017
Disney has certainly learned from past failures and has shown the amazing Polynesian culture through this film. Considering that my Polynesian family were also impressed by this film, I'd say that Disney has definitely come through with this culture.
If only they had been able to do the same for their African-American community in the Princess and the Frog. Stereotypes threaten Disney's innocence and while Maui could possibly be the poster child for Disney's constant stereotyping, feminists should be proud of their main heroine, Moana.
