Review of Mission: Impossible III (2006) by Matthew A — 15 Jul 2014
J.J. Abrams injected life into the Mission Impossible series with this 3rd installment. It jettisons the cartoonish stylistics of the previous bauble directed by John Woo. Abrams' movie works because he takes the story and his characters at face value; consequently, the character relationships between the MI team members are palpably real in a way that the previous two entries lacked.
This lends credence to the proceedings even in the midst of the loud action sequences. Abrams elicits solid performances from his capable cast, especially those of newcomer Simon Pegg as an IMF techie with a British accent, and Philip Seymour Hoffman's sinister turn as Owen Davian.
