Review of Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011) by Chillindylan G — 02 Aug 2015
Solid film for the most part with a couple of glaring complaints from me. My biggest complaint was Simon Pegg's character (and I like Simon Pegg). I didn't appreciate Pegg's buffoonery for much of the film (until the end). They made a concerted effort in MI3 to illustrate how difficult it was to become an IMF field agent (Agent Farris was the ONLY trainee that Ethan had ever endorsed for field agent work and even that was questioned); yet, Pegg is a complete imbecile during both the whole Kremlin scene and when he was supposed to be guarding Moreau (the chick assassin). His goofiness detracted more than it added to the film for me. My second, lesser complaint is that Ethan can kill 6 professional Serbian assassins (who "killed" his wife), but he was getting his ass kicked at the end by 1 old businessman with the briefcase. Anyway, the action in this film was very good and some scenes and cinematography were quite breathtaking (climbing the skyscraper, etc). I thought the second half of the movie was much stronger than the first half, and I loved the connection with Renner and Ethan's wife as well as the final twist at the end. I thought MI3 was a bit more serious and consistent throughout, but this was a solid 4th installment to the franchise.
Grade = 6/10.
