Review of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) by Ld P — 19 May 2009
Wow good film! ART DECO 1930's London. A friend of mine and I tried to see this but did not make it. She did make it and gave it thumbs up. I wish I had seen on big screen as the art deco 1930 staging and scenery are so fantastically glamorous.
Miss Pettigrew (Francis McDormand) is on the down and outs in London and keeps loosing her job. She manages to force her way into a job as a Social Secretary by stealing a card from the employment office.
Talk about crossing the british class distinction barriers. She does it!! So from the soup kitchen to the flashy upper crust Artists Actresses entertainers and Night Club Owners. Its really cute movie.
Stylish and witty. Its not literally a screwball comedy but close; It is very stylish and witty!! ha ha. Really it is kind of fantasy fairy tale!! I loved it highest rating 4 or 5 stars. certainly one of the best movies of 2008.
