Review of Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (2008) by David Z — 31 Dec 2011
Amy Adams, Frances McDormand, and Tom Payne are all terrific (especially the two ladies) in a movie that aims to make us laugh but only makes us smile. "Aim and just miss" is an apt way to describe much of what happens here: The comedy makes us smile and the moralizing may make us pause (however disjointed those pauses may be from the rest of the action.
) Nothing adds up to what I think was intended. It's all very sweet and hardly painful - just filled with missed efforts.
