Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by Richard S — 12 Oct 2017
I felt like this was more of a return to form for Tim Burton but it also helps having Jane Goldman on script writing duties who has been responsible for the writing behind some of the most enjoyable films I have seen over the past few years.
The greatest credit though must go to the original author who has created a whole need world and mythology around these characters that seemed to have been written specifically for a Tim Burton movie.
There are many recognisbale features and influences from other Tim Burton movies hidden away throughout the story but it never feels repetitive, I felt it was an enjoyable dark fantasy laced with the usual dark Tim Burton humour.
Plus it's the first movie I have ever seen that has had Blackpool as a star location and somehow, they made the place look like a nice seaside town, rather than the cesspit it actually is.
