Review of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016) by David Z — 26 Nov 2016
Burton's style and visual effects were perfect for this movie. Unfortunately, although all movies differ from their books, this film seemed determined to go as far as possible from its written counterpoint.
Going as far as replacing the main female character and foregoing the wonderful cliffhanger that the book had given, this movie attempted to combine the first half of the second book, Hollow City, spoiling it in a way that did neither the first book or the rest of the series justice.
Honestly, this was the equivalent of The Last Airbender to the Avatar series or the Eragon movie to the Eragon books. A serious disappointment, and I hope someone else will remake it with a more true connection to the books and the opportunity to continue it as a series as the books were absolutely phenomenal.
