Review of Misery (1990) by Carrie H — 18 Feb 2011
One of the better adaptations based on Stephen King's novels. I can honestly say that I liked this movie, though it has it's share of shortcomings and problems. One of the major problems is that this movie doesn't leave much of an impression - especially if you've read the original book and thus know everything that's going to happen.
The plot twists are a little bit too convenient and the ending is kind of meh. So why do I like this one? Well, the acting is extremely solid for one thing. Kathy Bates won an Oscar for her role and it shows, though I must admit that some of her screaming scenes were a little over the top.
James Caan was also very good in his role, I liked him the most. Furthermore the story is of course captivating, the cinematography is good and all in all the whole movie seems to flow really well. So yeah, it's nothing overly great, but it's good.
