Review of Misery (1990) by Anssi V — 08 Oct 2011
For some reason this movie mesmerized me as a impressionable 9 year old. I must have seen it 20 times as a kid. Its not the type of movie you would expect someone that age to really like but I had to watch it every time it came on. I'm not sure what it was about this film that fascinated me; maybe it was the thought of how someone could so desperately cling to fictional characters that they would violently lash out at anyone who harmed them. I didn't realize until I was much older that this is not as uncommon an occurrence in everyday life. I guess if any work of fiction triggers emotion in you then you have to wonder how much crazier Annie Wilkes is than any of us.
And The hobbling scene is no less graphic 20 years later. Fabulous film.
