Review of Misery (1990) by Nash A — 19 Aug 2011
The story is good and haunting, but Misery is overshadowed by the fact that it is at times too upsetting for a feature lenghth movie. James Caan gives a great performance, but it is Kathy Bates's performance that steals the show.
Kathy Bates plays a disturbed, phsycotic woman who needs to be put away, and she is pretty much the only reedeeming factor is this movie. Seeings James Caan's character be tortured or seeing the horrible crimes Bates's character has commited in the past might make you want to take a break or turn to a different movie.
Overall, it is a decent Steven King movie that offers some suspense and shock, but in the end it makes you wonder how you just sat through the whole movie. The only reason I would recommend this movie is if you are a Steven King fan or if you just want to see Kathy Bates being an entertaining lunatic.
