Review of Misery (1990) by Eytan D — 06 Mar 2013
A perfect adaptation that gets everything right, "Misery" is one of Stephen King's greatest nightmares: What would happen if your biggest fan turned on you? William Goldman's script is knife-edge sharp, and Rob Reiner's direction is spot on.
James Caan gives an excellent performance, but it will always be Kathy Bates who blows you away as Annie Wilkes, the super-fan from hell. She flawlessly balances an eerily sweet personality with powerhouse anger.
An Oscar well-deserved. The "hobbling" sequence still makes me squirm.
