Review of Misery (1990) by Tomislav A — 12 Sep 2010
With Misery being mainly a horror, it is strangely light-hearted. I still heaven't read the novel but I can bet it is way better then the movie adaptation. It usually is like that. What elevated this movie was certanly it's performances by both Caan and Bates.
Although people tend to admire negative roles more often, I thought Caan did even better job than Kathy Bates. He did not speak much but the way his Misery was portrayed was superb. I felt a bit claustrophobic watching him.
Simple-minded but very well done, Misery is probably the best Stephen King adaptation alongside The Shining and The Mist.
