Review of Miracle Mile (1989) by Daniel A — 24 Apr 2012
Here's a variation on a theme: an 80s PRE-apocalypse drama! It starts off all nice and quirky, with a sentimental dash of love-at-first sight, and a colourful who's-who of a supporting cast. Once the prospect of impending doom is introduced, the stage seems set for a hijinks-ridden race against time to avoid annihilation; as the film continues, said expectation slowly gets torn asunder, not unlike the fabric of our protagonists' society.
With the majority of the film taking place in "real time", the resultant tension and pandemonium eats away at any levity established at the outset, leading one to wonder whether the film's title will prove a misnomer.
In short, a successful depiction of desolation, on more than one level. Just TRY and find a metaphorical silver lining in this (mushroom) cloud!
