Review of Miracle at St. Anna (2008) by Adam A — 01 Mar 2009
A promising premise that Spike Lee, who is talented, totally fouls up through his unrealistic ambitions. Trying to mix a dense film like Saving Private Ryan with a deep commentary on race relations during WWII while exploring a drama between four soldies, one of whom really reminds us of Lenny from "Of Mice and Men," is too much.
I was really fascinated by the African American soldiers in WWII and would love to learn more about it beyond the shallow discimination shown in the movie, but this movie tries to cover way too much ground and as a result, seems to miss everything.
All these topics deserved much more, and Spike Lee was too empassioned to do them justice.
