Review of Minority Report (2002) by Arsenio G — 26 Mar 2013
The underlying theme of Minority Report is man's right to have a choice, which is clearly represented in the beginning when Witwer catches the ball rolling before it would've hit the ground, symbolic of free will conquering determinism, which provides the ultimate message of the film; realizing that you as an individual always have a choice.
Although the film stays with its genre and the themes are well-defined, the plot is a tad jumbled. In all honesty, I had to read summaries online and map out what exactly happened from what I had just watched. It took me only a few minutes to figure out from mapping that ultimately Burgess was trying to protect an otherwise perfect system.
Regardless of the somewhat confusing plot, this is still, at least in my opinion, another masterpiece of Speilberg's.
