Review of Minority Report (2002) by Junelkean — 02 Jul 2017
Steven Spielberg creates a futuristic universe where crime could be prevented in this 2002 masterfully directed film with evocative CGI and compelling performances from Tom Cruise and his supporting actors including Colin Farrell, Samantha Morton and Max Von Sydow. Cruise plays the head of Precrime, who is on the run due to an accusation of a future murder of a man he doesn't know.
Spielberg continues to become a master of filmmaking by this utterly brilliant movie. He perfectly combines science fiction, crime and noir into one enthralling package which hones the mind and fascinates the soul. Aside from its brilliance, the action pieces are supported with special effects that absolutely intensifies the audience right from the start.
It is a realistic vision of the future, despite of its captivating and fantastic story. But what makes Minority Report an amazing Spielberg flick is that in every progression, there is a development of Cruise's persona, until we see the twist at the end. It truly respects the source material of Philip K. Dick by using classic technique to a futuristic tale.
VERDICT: Minority Report is a package of science fiction, crime and neo-noir which brings a classical style to a futuristic tale.
